The present album is the first publication of one of the largest collections of samovars that belonged to the State Russian Museum. The album included a number of specimens from the State Museum of Ethnography of the peoples of the USSR, Museum of the city of Veliky Ustyug and some other museums, as well as from the collection of the Leningrad P. P. Kvaskova. The publication also presents metal utensils and the “environment” of the samovar: tea utensils, dinnerware, trays. Reproduced here items will be exhibited at the exhibition “Russian samovar”, which is due to open in the State Russian Museum. At the time, historical Department of the Russian Museum possessed a large and interesting collection of samovars. But before the great Patriotic war, all the materials of this Department, including samovars, were transferred to the State Hermitage. In the collection of the Russian Museum is only a few samples falling in front of the silver sets. The formation of the new collection began in 1965, when the Museum acquired in Moscow in E. G. Andreeva-Leases about forty of copper products, among which the most part was made samovars. This group of samovars and were the basis of the present collection of the Russian Museum. For five years the Museum has acquired a copper and silver samovars, among which there are samples very interesting in artistic terms and from the point of view of historical. The collection has samovars of the XVIII and XIX centuries, diverse in form and material. In local history, ethnographic and art museums of our country kept a large number of Russian samovars. For example, has a fascinating collection of the State Historical Museum. These collections are waiting to be explored and, of course, publications.
